Below is a list of resources (individuals, authors, books, podcasts, etc.) that have all had profound impact on me. **I am not sponsored in any way by anything you see on here**

Grief resources:

  • To Love and Let Go by Rachel Brathen (@yoga_girl)
  • Unattended Sorrow by Stephen Levine
  • This podcast conversation with David Kessler
  • This podcast conversation with Elizabeth Gilbert.

Buddhist teachers:

  • Pema Chödrön: her book When Things Fall Apart is beautiful, but any book of hers or interviews with her will give you massive a-ha moments.
  • Mingyur Rinpoche: his youtube channel is chock full of goodies. He's really good at simplifying big ideas or Buddhist teachings and practices. This is his iconic How To Train the Monkey Mind that went viral on socials.
  • Thích Nhất Hạnh: Zen master and author of a number of books.
  • Baba Ram Dass: he recently passed, but know that he was a pioneer in introducing Eastern philosophies and ideas to the Western world. He has a million and one quotes that deeply move me.

Spiritual teachers:

  • Eckhart Tolle: his book A New Earth reframed my view of life.
  • Dr. Joe Dispenza: his meditations healed me in so many ways, and his teachings with scientific findings in Becoming Supernatural are so inspiring.
  • Ainslie Macleod has appeared in a number of podcasts (including this one with Oprah) and his message about past lives helped me process grief and much more.
  • Oprah Winfrey: I've loved her for decades, but if podcasts are your thing, you're bound to find an episode of SuperSoul Conversations that will change your life.

Mental Health Books:

  • The Noonday Demon by Andrew Solomon: a book on depression. I never again felt alone with my struggles having read this.
  • It's Not Always Depression by Hilary Jacobs Hendel: taught me how to use traditional CBT counselling sessions to bring about deep realizations more often and incite big, deep wound healings. I also learned how to identify and process emotions, something I was never taught.
  • When the Body Says No by Dr. Gabor Maté, a physician and addiction expert. If anything, listen to this podcast episode to understand the effect of trauma in the body.

Other Books

  • Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain gave me permission to be me. Or watch her TEDtalk that's been viewed over 26 million times.
  • anything by Brené Brown: 10 years ago, she revolutionized our lives with her TEDtalk that's got almost 50 million views
  • The War of Art by Steven Pressfield: if you're an artist, you need this book. Period.
  • Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert: all about creativity and creating.
  • The 4-Hour collection of books by Tim Ferriss. I've been a fan of his for years but if you don't want to read, check out his podcast.
  • Becoming by Michelle Obama: don't think I need to explain this choice.
  • Born A Crime by Trevor Noah but only if you get the audiobook. It's a funny, intelligent, and moving memoir. If anything, you'll hear Trevor speaking in 7 languages which will definitely blow your mind. He's shot to #1 on my Future Husband List after I finished it.
  • The Ethical Slut by Dossie Easton and Janet Hardy: I didn't know how to identify or explain my own relationship style/preferences until I came across this book.

Authors, Thought Leaders, and Motivational Speakers worth mentioning:

  • Esther Perel: genius psychotherapist, author, TEDtalk-er, and now podcaster.
  • Malcolm Gladwell: ever heard of the 10,000 hours to become an expert "rule"? It's from this book.
  • Tony Robbins: he's controversial, but I learned lots from him. Watch I Am Not Your Guru on Netflix to get an insight on him and his work.
